EXPLANATION ABOUT OUR TOUR
🚶 1. Village Walking Tour
Duration: 2 to 3 Hours (Flexible based on guest pace)
What the guest will experience: Immerse yourself in the vibrant everyday life of Mto wa Mbu. On this guided walking tour, you will stroll through lush green banana plantations—home to over 30 different banana species—and explore local rice fields. You will visit local art workshops to see talented Makonde carvers at work, watch traditional Chagga painters, and stop by a local brewery to learn how traditional banana beer (mbege) is crafted. It is a beautiful, firsthand look at true Tanzanian culture and community life.
🚴 2. Cycling to Lake Manyara
Duration: 3 to 4 Hours
What the guest will experience: Hop on a mountain bike for an active, scenic ride through the outskirts of the village heading towards the shores of Lake Manyara. As you ride along the flat, dusty trails, you will pass through local farming communities and open acacia woodlands. At the lake shore, you will witness breathtaking, wide-open views of the Great Rift Valley wall and have the chance to spot wildlife such as pink flamingos, pelicans, gazelles, wildebeests, and zebras grazing nearby.
⚠️ 3. Visiting a Maasai Boma
Duration: 2 to 3 Hours
What the guest will experience: Step into an authentic, traditional Maasai village (Boma) and experience a culture that has remained unchanged for centuries. Guests are warmly welcomed with energetic, rhythmic singing and jumping dances by Maasai warriors and women. You will get to walk inside their traditional mud-and-thatch houses (Manyatta), learn about their deep history, cattle-herding lifestyle, and social customs, and see the intricate, colorful beadwork handmade by the Maasai women.
🥾 4. Highland Hiking
Duration: Half-Day or Full-Day Trip (4 to 6 Hours)
What the guest will experience: For nature lovers and adventure seekers, this hike takes you up the spectacular slopes and ridges of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. As you climb higher, the air cools and the views open up to reveal stunning, panoramic vistas of Mto wa Mbu town, Lake Manyara, and the surrounding landscapes below. Along the trails, you will encounter unique local flora, beautiful birds, monkeys jumping through the trees, and hidden waterfalls perfect for a scenic rest stop.
🍽️ 5. Traditional African Food Experience
Duration: 1 to 2 Hours (Usually integrated with lunchtime)
What the guest will experience: Treat your taste buds to an unforgettable culinary journey. Guests will enjoy a rich, buffet-style traditional lunch prepared lovingly by local women under a shaded banana canopy. You will taste authentic Tanzanian dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including Ugali (maize porridge), Wali wa Nazi (coconut rice), Ndizi Nyama (banana and meat stew), fresh local vegetables, beans, and delicious seasonal fruits. It’s a true taste of local hospitality!
🏡 6. Authentic Home Staying
Duration: Overnight (1 or more nights)
What the guest will experience: Go beyond being just a tourist and become part of a Tanzanian family. Staying in a local home gives guests a rare, deeply personal look into daily African life. You will share stories around the evening table, assist with daily activities like cooking dinner over an open fire or gathering ingredients from the market, and enjoy safe, welcoming, and humble accommodations. It is the ultimate experience for cultural exchange and lifelong friendships.
🤝 7. Charity Program & Community Support
Duration: 2 Hours to a Half-Day (Can be customized)
What the guest will experience: At Walk With Petty Organization, we believe in Exploring Nature, Touching Lives. This meaningful experience connects guests with our local community support projects. You can visit a local daycare center or primary school, interact with the children, and see how we support vulnerable families and youth in the area. Guests have the opportunity to give back, whether by sharing a skill, donating school supplies, or simply spending quality time bringing smiles to the faces of the community.
